Zawiyah Cot Kala dan Keberlanjutan Budaya Intelektual Islam di Aceh

Abstract

Zawiyah Cot Kala should ideally be understood not merely as an Islamic educational institution in the history of Aceh, but also as a space for the formation and continuity of Islamic intellectual culture through scholarly traditions, knowledge transmission, and networks of religious scholars. However, studies of Zawiyah Cot Kala have tended to position it primarily as a historical educational institution, while its contribution to the continuity of Islamic intellectual culture has received limited specific analysis. This study aims to analyze the role of Zawiyah Cot Kala in the formation and continuity of Islamic intellectual culture in Aceh by examining the integration of naqliyah and aqliyah sciences, the breadth of its curriculum, knowledge transmission, alumni networks, and the transformation of Zawiyah traditions into the Dayah tradition. This study employs qualitative library research with a historical-analytical approach. Data were obtained from relevant primary and secondary sources and analyzed through historical and content analysis, supported by source triangulation and source criticism. The findings show that the continuity of Zawiyah’s intellectual culture is reflected in the integration of naqliyah and aqliyah sciences, the breadth of knowledge, knowledge transmission through scholars and alumni, and institutional transformation toward the Dayah tradition. This legacy constitutes part of Aceh’s cultural memory and the continuity of Islamic intellectual tradition.
